On this CD, Rick and Rieah combine “mantras” and “song” tied by simple melodies influenced by traditional Kirtan chants, a call and response song structure. Rieah plays Harmonium, Tanpura and Percussion while leading the group as the main singer and songwriter. Tanpura is a drone instrument and resembles a sitar except it has no frets. This instrument plays a big anchor type of job that singers/players tune in to. Harmonium is an organ-like keyboard instrument that produces tones with free metal reeds actuated by air forced from a bellows by pumping, like an accordion. It is used to accompany singers, and is also played by soloists. The exotic tones of those very old Indian traditional musical instruments leads SPANDA’s music with spices of music twists. Rick creates tracks from simple repeating melody lines using his experience in over 30 years of being a composer and a producer, as well as a world- tour guitarist. He adds beat and arrangement, then using odd assortment of percussion instruments, ranging from bell and gong sounds, to the crack of woodblock-like timbres, to murmuring wind sounds.
"Music is the greatest meditation technique for both the musician and the listener. Instead of listening to it as a relaxation, if you meditate on its core, music can steadily increase the awareness in you. It can help you move from your outer periphery to your inner core and ultimately help you explode and merge with Existence! Music is the simplest meditation technique that can take you to the state of Nithyananda - Eternal Bliss!"
